History and Philosophy
The Center was founded in 2003 by Dr. Stacy L Scott. Dr. Scott also heads ExecResults Consulting, which he co-founded with Kerry Messer in 1989. Through these organizations Dr. Scott has had a long history of supporting schools, communities, universities and corporations in creating strategic focus on making diversity a source of strength and creativity. His philosophy and that of Center associates include:
- Diversity awareness is not to be pursued for its own sake but rather to be put to use in the service of enriching the interactions and productivity of the organization
- Creativity and high performance are the fruit of healthy individuals and organizations
- Diversity, well managed, is at the heart of a healthy organization
- Individuals who relish their uniqueness bring new energy to their performance teams also perform better when diversity is alive and fully explored
The Center for Understanding Equity is committed to developing resources for increased understanding of issues of equity in schools and society at large. The Center is committed to releasing the unlimited potential in the next generation of children by supporting their access to equal opportunity in our society. The Center is a clearinghouse for strategies, interventions, and creative solutions for overcoming inequalities that limit effective development.
