Making Equity Work: Premier Workshop
The seminar is made up of three sections, in an initial two days with a one-day follow-up:

I. Building a case for equity:

  • Policy and practice of equity in Public Education
  • The impact of strategies attempted to ameliorate the problem
  • The current data on equity in terms of race, ethnicity, gender and etc.
  • Case study method, videos and surveys will be used to highlight the issues.

II. Strategic interventions

  • Theoretical frameworks on the impact of equity policy and practice
  • Problem solving strategies: creating cultural shifts
  • Measurement, indicators and antecedents for excellence

III. Assessment and follow-up

  • Monitoring
  • Creating a culture of excellence
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Participants will:
 
  • Learn how to apply correlates of effective schools to deliver consistently high performance of students and teachers.
  • Learn how to more creatively use available resources to support and motivate high performance from all members of the organization.
  • Create a strategic plan for improving inclusion and equity by responding to particular issues within their current environment.
  • Identify indicators for assessing problem areas and practice using metrics for monitoring the issues they focus on.

  • What has been the history of attempts to improve equity in the United States?
  • How effective have we become at producing proficiency for students from the many diverse backgrounds that make up our population?
  • Do our schools foster cultures of excellence?
  • How do we assess the viability of a school or district's culture?
  • How does a school's policy and practice affect its culture and the performance of its members?
  • What supports and what hinders student performance?
  • What strategies respond to the needs of students and accelerate student performance?
